BICHECTOMY
Bichectomy is a surgical procedure that allows a better appearance of the cheeks, by resection of a structure of the facial anatomy known as bichat fat bags, which in many cases makes a person appear to be fatter than It truly is.
The resection of the Bichat bags is based on the anatomical knowledge that the facial plastic surgeon must have, which defines the direct and precise path for their extraction, and thus obtain surprising aesthetic results of the facial contour.
During a cheek operation, caution is required when handling the bags, since this area is intimately related to the buccal and zygomatic branches of the facial nerve; abrupt or inaccurate manipulation can damage these nerve structures and generate a postoperative facial paralysis.
The size of the Bichat bag is rarely correlated with the degree of adiposity of the patient.
